How DotVA handles your application
Plain English, no surprises. We use automated checks to help (for example, scoring the skills questions and flagging answers that look copied or AI-generated), but a person makes the final call.
What we collect
Your name and contact details, the role you apply for, your answers to the assessment and interview, an optional resume and links you choose to share. As part of phase one we ask you to record a short intro video; this captures both your image and your voice. We also record the connection (IP) address you apply from, which we use only to spot duplicate or abusive applications.
Activity we record during the assessment
To keep the assessment fair we record some activity on the test pages: how long you take on each section, your general typing pattern, any attempt to paste, and whether you switch away from the test window. We use this as a prompt for a closer human look, for example before a live interview. It is advisory only: it is never a score and it never rejects you on its own. A real person reviews everything.
Why we collect it
Only to assess your application fairly and to keep your details on file so we can consider you for future roles. We do not sell your data or share it outside DotVA (Boring Ventures Pty Ltd) and the client team considering your application. The intro video is watched by a person, on our team or the client team considering you, and is never scored automatically.
Where your data is stored
Boring Ventures Pty Ltd is an Australian company, so your application is processed in Australia and stored on a secure server located in Europe. If you apply from outside these places, your information is transferred to and handled there. Boring Ventures Pty Ltd remains responsible for it wherever it is held.
How long we keep it
We keep applications so a strong person is never lost when a new role opens. This is exactly what we remove, and when:
- If you start the assessment but do not finish it: once 30 days have passed since your last activity on it, we remove the test detail, meaning the questions you were given and the answers saved so far. The application then closes, and you are welcome to apply again.
- If you finish the screener but do not pass it: once 60 days have passed since your last activity on it (usually the day you finish), we remove the test detail, meaning the questions, the answers you gave and how long each one took.
- In both of those cases we keep your name, contact details, the role you applied for, your scores and the outcome, so we can still consider you for future roles. Your resume and intro video are not affected by this step.
- If our team decides not to go ahead with your application: 12 months after your assessment we remove your phone number, LinkedIn, portfolio link, pay rate and written introduction, your connection (IP) address, your saved answers and written tasks, your interview answers and our interview notes, your resume, your intro video and the details of the activity we recorded. We keep a minimal record: your name, email, the role, your scores and the outcome.
- Everything else stays on file until you ask us to delete it (see below).
